2nd Grade Overview

August 17 - 23

MATH: We are working with students on number recognition, number order, and how to use a number line and chart. We are also working on our zero and one fact families.

READING: We will start our F&F unit on Sequence of Events. Look for the Sequence of Events Skills and Vocabulary pages in your child’s homework folder. These pages will stay in their homework folders for easy access at home. Begin to have your child study the skills (pattern statement and process questions) and vocabulary words a few times each week. Use the process questions as part of your book discussions at home.

**Please have your child read for ten minutes each night. Include time for your child to read aloud to you.

SPELLING/PHONICS: We will be working on List #1 of our Spelling words. The list will be in their agenda, as well as a list that is in their homework folder. The test will also include two dictated sentences that they will need to write, using correct capitalization and punctuation. Our Spelling test will be on Friday, August 23.

SCIENCE: We will continue in our unit on Dinosaurs and Creation.

LANGUAGE/WRITING: Students will be completing sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation. They will practice writing sentences through copywork.

****A few of reminders:

-The rooms can be cold, so your child may need a sweater/sweatshirt to wear in the classroom.

-Students may also need a water bottle that they can use in the classroom, but also outside for recess.

-Please make sure to label your child’s water bottle and sweaters/sweatshirts.

THANK YOU for reading the overview! Have a great week!
