4th Grade Overview

August 17 - 23

Summer reading book clubs will be on Monday and Tuesday. We will meet during our last period of the day to discuss the books your child read over the summer. 

 

Reading: We will start our new unit over Main Idea this week. We will be reading in class for this unit. 


Spelling: The students have their spelling words in their binder. We will be working on these words over the next 2 weeks. Spelling Choice board is due on Friday, September 6. The test over List 1 will be on Friday, September 6. 


ELA/Writing: 

In Writing, we will begin our workshop protocols and introduce Narrative writing. In ELA, we will study sentence structure and the basics of sentence types. Don’t forget 5 pictures are due for ELA by Wednesday, August 21.


Math: Unit 1 covers models for multiplication and division. Key Vocabulary words are factors, multiples, prime, and composite. Homework packets will go home Monday and are due Friday.


Social Studies/Science: On Monday, we will be looking at our bugs with a magnifying glass and a microscope - can’t wait! Late in the week, we will be mixing some dried cochineal bugs with various liquids and painting with our mixtures. We will also be starting Social Studies on the Thirteen Original Colonies.
